Information

You are invited to take part in the study if the following apply:

You are over the age of 18

You live in the UK

You care for a child (age 5 - 18) with a diagnosed learning disability*

Your child lives in the same home as yourself

*proof may be required

If you decide to take part in the study:

You will be asked to take part in an interview with the lead researcher where you will be asked a number of questions about your views and experiences of caring for your child with a learning disability. This will include questions about the impact this may have on your own wellbeing.

The interview will take place remotely via a secure online platform (e.g. Microsoft Trams or Zoom) and will take up to one hour, at a time that is convenient to you. We would like to audio record your interview so it is recommended that you sit in a quiet place where interruptions will be minimised.

What are the benefits and risks of taking part?

By taking part and sharing your experiences with us, you will be contributing to the research in this area. This research will help others to better understand the experiences of fathers of caring for a child with a learning disability and could be used to inform future policies, training, and/or contribute to developing ways to support families who care for a child with a learning disability.

Research can sometimes cause distress to participants, particularly when discussing potentially sensitive topics. It is possible that you may experience distress as a result of taking part in this study and speaking about your experiences. If, during the interview, you would like to take a break, or stop at any time, you will be able to. After the interview, we will be able to discuss any available support if you feel it is needed.
